Queen's Formula SAE unveils new car

May 3rd, 2012 marked a big day for Queen’s Formula SAE team, as sponsors, faculty and other supporters gathered for the first ever formal unveiling of a Formula car. The team, one of 14 design teams run by Queen’s Engineering students, was launched in1993.

Building and evaluating a section of new monorail test track in Kingston is providing a unique learning opportunity for Queen’s civil engineering students through collaborative research with Bombardier Transportation’s System Division in Kingston. “This project represents a significant step forward,” says structural engineering professor and Canada Research Chair Amir Fam. “It provides a unique opportunity for testing Queen’s technologies and designs in collaboration with a major industry leader.”

The electrical systems in Dupuis Hall have been repaired. Dupuis Hall has been reopened and all facilities are resuming normal scheduling.

Queen's researcher-innovator recognized by world's largest engineering association

.A Queen's University researcher specializing in energy- and cost- efficient power electronic technologies has been recognized by the world’s largest professional technology advancement association for his work in the field of power conversion.
Dr. Praveen Jain, Canada Research Chair in Power Electronics at Queen’s, has been named the 2011 recipient of the William E. Newell Power Electronics Award by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). It is the organization’s highest award in the field of power electronics. Dr. Jain is being honoured for his advancements in the theory and practice of high-frequency power conversion systems.

$1.5 million funding announced

A project team led by Queen’s Engineering’s Dr. Brant Peppley has been awarded $1,503,600 in funding from the Ontario Research Fund - Research Excellence program for the Energy Storage and Recovery Ontario (ESARO) project, to develop technologies to help in managing the variability of solar and wind power generation.
