Remotely connecting to a virtual desktop

You can connect to the same virtual desktops used in Faculty labs and offices from your own computer or mobile device anywhere you have a stable Internet connection.

  1. You need to download the VMWare View Client software. Navigate to You will see a screen similar to the following:

  2. Click the blue link to download the software for your particular operating system. Up-to-date VMware Horizon View clients for all OSes are available here.
  3. Install the software using your operating system's normal process.
  4. Once installed, run the View Client software. When asked for a server address enter
  5. For the user id and password, staff and students should use their NetID credentials. 
  6. Once authenticated, you will see the same list of virtual desktops that you would see from one of our labs or offices.

Note that the zero client devices we use in the Faculty have dedicated hardware to accelerate the virtual desktop performance. Your device does not have this hardware, and your Internet performance outside of the campus is highly variable and depends on a number of factors. So the virtual desktop won't be as fast as it would be from one of our locations.
