About QYEA
QYEA is the Queen’s Young Engineering Alumni. Active in the Toronto area since 2011, QYEA was established to help new grads engage in professional development and networking opportunities, reconnect with old classmates, and reignite their passion for Queen’s. As an up and coming group of leaders, QYEA has set out a vision and mission explaining its role with respect to Queen's, and the broader community.
Our Vision and Mission
Queen’s Young Engineering Alumni (QYEA) believes that when bright, young engineers graduate with a rich capacity for innovation, initiative and leadership, businesses thrive, commercialization grows and Canada becomes more globally competitive.
QYEA believes that the capacity for innovation, initiative and leadership gained at Queen’s can be further developed in all of our alumni.
QYEA will inspire greatness by delivering exceptional opportunities for alumni to grow and evolve their capacity for innovation, initiative and leadership, and by showing a generation of Queen’s engineers the importance and benefits of investing in the future of the Queen’s Engineering and Applied Science program.
Our Initiatives
Gael’s Den
Since 2015, QYEA has held the Gael’s Den event – a Queen’s spin on the “Dragon’s Den” TV show. Our panel of Gaels is assembled by the highest donors to the event each year. The Gaels get to hear different student groups such as engineering design teams, clubs, and conferences pitch for funding, and then award it. Since its inception the Gael’s Den has raised over $100,000 donated directly to Queen’s Engineering student groups.
QYEA Annual Summer Mixer
In the summer we are proud to invite newly graduated alumni, summer students, and other alumni in the area for a casual mixer event. This event is a great way to reconnect with other grads and learn more about QYEA. Our most popular event, year after year!
QYEA Welcome Back Party
Each fall, QYEA welcomes its newest alumni to the young alumni community at our Welcome Back event. Previous speakers have included Mike Serbinis, Sc’95, CEO of League Inc, and Matthew Seagrim, Sc’96, Managing Director of SCENE.
TED Talks / Speaker Series
QYEA has held “TED Talks” in the past, featuring members of the Queen’s engineering community. The topics have ranged from technology, entertainment, design, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. These talks offer a great way for Queen’s engineers to stay connected and learn from the many pathbreakers in our community.
