Biography Research Teaching Publications Awards & Grants

Katerina Genikomsou joined the Civil Engineering Department at Queen’s University as an assistant professor in January 2017. Dr. Genikomsou obtained her PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo in June 2016. In her doctoral work, she performed nonlinear finite element analysis of reinforced concrete flat slabs to study their punching shear behaviour. She holds two Diplomas, the first in Environmental Engineering (2008) and the second in Civil (Structural) Engineering (2011) and a MSc in Civil Engineering from the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece. After her PhD, she was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Waterloo (2016), where she performed material testing of different types of Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) bars. This research work was funded by Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO). Dr. Genikomsou is an associate member of the ACI/ASCE committees 445 (Shear and Torsion)447 (Finite Element Analysis of RC structures) and 352 (Joints and connections in monolithic concrete structures), a voting member of the ACI/ASCE committee 421 (Design of RC slabs) and a member of the fib Working Party 2.2.3 (Punching and Shear slabs). She is interested in promoting teaching and learning in concrete education and she is a member of the ACI committee 88-S802 - Teaching and Educational Materials
