PHOTOS: Successful launch for Queen's Rocket Engineering Team
The members of the Queen’s Rocket Engineering Team (QRET) competed last week at Spaceport America, New Mexico. QRET launched its 10-foot sounding rocket, Brigid, named after the Celtic goddess of engineering, to an altitude of 10,954 feet. The parachute deployed successfully and the landing was soft. The rocket was ready for reuse after a half-hour of repair work. Every part of the carbon fiber and Kevlar rocket, aside from the motor and parachute, was student-made in-house. This is the first successful launch in the team's history and they’re already working on an even more advanced rocket for next year. Congratulations all!
