VIDEO: Using AI to control a VTOL UAV for autonomous surveillance

Posted on March 26, 2019

Sarah, Austin, Erik, and Haylee have developed an autonomous VTOL UAV with control system for overhead surveillance. It uses the YOLO machine learning and object detection algorithm to recognize and classify specific types of objects – cars in this case – in the UAV camera’s field of view. As well as security applications, the system could be used in all kinds of ways including search-and-rescue, or even agricultural, just to name a couple.
