The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science is coming together as a community to join the fight against racism. On June 10th, the Faculty will join other individuals and institutions in the global #ShutDownSTEM Day of Action by hosting events that create space for education and discussion for eradicating anti-Black racism in the Queen’s community.
The Faculty will be streaming a conversation about racism in academia and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) between Dean Kevin Deluzio and Dr. Aba Mortley, an entrepreneur and Queen’s alumna. The conversation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring students, staff and faculty to develop a framework for supporting initiatives to take action against systemic racism at Queen’s.
Along with the June 10 Day of Action, the Faculty is also working on several initiatives to promote equity, diversity and inclusivity in the engineering community.
“Last week, I wrote about the need for us to come together as a community to actively join the fight against racism and show up for those who are targeted,” says Dean Deluzio. “Now it’s time for us to truly define our commitment with a tangible plan of action.”
