Five incoming first-year students at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science are among the ten future leaders in STEM disciplines at Queen’s to receive the Schulich Leader Scholarships, valued at $100,000 per student. The coveted scholarships are funded by The Schulich Foundation, launched by Canadian businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich in 2012, to aid the technology leaders of tomorrow.

The Schulich Leaders attending Queen’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science this fall are:

  • Sabrina Button, Kanata, ON
  • Hayley Galsworthy, Waterdown, ON
  • Theo Lemay, Courtenay, BC
  • Catherine Douglas, Mountain Grove, ON
  • Julia Dyck, Winnipeg, MB

The Schulich Leader Scholarships lessen financial stress on students and allow them to focus more of their time and energy on their studies.

“We are grateful to the Schulich Foundation for supporting future generations of STEM leaders in Canada,” says Ann Tierney, Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs. “On behalf of Queen’s, I want to congratulate our student leaders of tomorrow for their accomplishments. We are honoured that these gifted students have chosen to pursue their studies at Queen’s.”

With their university expenses covered, they can focus their time on their studies, research projects, extracurriculars, and entrepreneurial ventures. They are the next generation of entrepreneurial-minded, technology innovators,” says program founder Seymour Schulich.
