Welcome to your Winter 2023 Wellness Week!

We’re going to spend a week showcasing all the ways small changes can improve the well-being of our undergraduate and graduate students – while giving away bigger prizes that can help improve your well-being even more!

On top of that, we’ll be giving out care packages each day, so watch your inbox for more details.

Monday, March 6, 9 am – 4 pm, Beamish-Munro Atrium

Learn how to manage stress with VR Technology

flowborne.pngWe’re transforming the atrium of Beamish-Munro Hall into a virtual reality–based mindfulness experience. Stop by between 9 am–4 pm and sign-up to use the MetaQuest 2 VR headset to try out Flowborne, a visually dazzling game that teaches you how to control your breathing to help increase your mood and lower your stress.

Also, everyone who tries out the VR headset will automatically be entered into a draw for the chance to win two free professional massages a month for a semester (estimated value $750)!*

Tuesday, March 7, 12 - 1 pm, Outside Beamish-Munro 313

Optimize meals for your busy schedule

Running between a lecture and a meeting with your group, trying to squeeze in that lab before it’s due, and that granola bar you had for breakfast isn’t holding you down? Sign up for this free meal prep session and learn about the supports that are available through the Health Promotion Office.

Attendees will be entered into a draw to win 20 free personal training sessions from the ARC! (valued at $830)*

First come, first served – while supplies last!

Wednesday, March 8, 12 pm – 1 pm, Beamish-Munro 111

Caring for another living being makes us happier and healthier

Therapy DogStudies show that caring for another living thing increases feelings of well-being. So come pick up a houseplant to take care of and enjoy at home. And while you’re here, you can also say hi to our fluffy, adorable four-legged pals from the St. John Ambulance, because therapy dogs are back by popular demand!

Trained to be gentle and friendly, therapy dogs are patient and accepting of strangers who pet and hug them. They can support a person’s mental health by creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere of comfort. Studies have shown that interaction with these lovely dogs can increase mood-elevating hormones, and thereby reduce stress.

Come pet a dog, pick up your free plant (while supplies last) and enter a draw to win a free float session for you and a friend from RejuvNation!*

Thursday, March 9, 12 pm – 1 pm, Beamish-Munro Atrium

“You don’t have to do it on your own!” Resource Fair

Managing your stress levels and metal health throughout the semester can be tough, why not offload some of that stress by reaching out to one of the free supports you have access to as an Eng student? On Thursday, we’re bringing some of these resources together for you to check out, so stop by and speak to representatives from Student Academic Success Services, Faith and Spiritual Life, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Services, Health Promotion, Queen’s University Internship Program, and more!

Bonus challenge: stop by the booths of all the participating groups, mark them all off on the Wellness Week passport you’ll be given, and enter our contest to win an entire semester’s worth of HelloFresh weekly meal kits* (valued at $1300)!

Friday, March 10, 9 am – 4 pm, Beamish-Munro Atrium

Headspace Scavenger Hunt!

headspace.jpgIf you haven’t already heard, Headspace (the most science-based meditation app around) is available to all Queen’s Engineering students for free for the rest of the academic year, and we want to help you get more acquainted with the app and all it has to offer. In this interactive challenge, you’ll search for 9 Headspace icons attached to QR codes that are hidden within the ILC atrium, each sending you to a different mindfulness technique. Each video is short and you have all day to find them, but you’ll have to view them all to complete the challenge!

Those who show the completed challenge in their Headspace app to the Mental Health Programs Lead in Student Services will be entered for an incredible grand prize of an overnight getaway for you and a friend to the Nordic Spa in Chelsea, Quebec!*
