Congratulations to Dr. Cao Thang Dinh and his PhD students Cornelius Obasanjo and Guorui Gao (Refuel@Queen’son their innovation on electrochemical carbon dioxide conversion to hydrocarbon fuels and chemicals which is among the top 10 projects in the Engineering and Technology category competing for the Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year title! Falling Walls received over a thousand nominations worldwide for a total of 9 categories. From there, they selected 30 finalists for each category (announced in June), and then 10 winners.  One scientific work from each category will be awarded Science Breakthrough of the Year 2023 and will be presented at the Falling Walls Science Summit on November 9, 2023.

Breaking the Wall to Carbon Capture Technology: Cao Thang Dinh and his team developed a novel system that integrates carbon capture and conversion in a single step, addressing the biggest challenge in carbon dioxide conversion technology — low energy efficiency. Their application is mainly based on their work, High-rate and selective conversion of CO2 from aqueous solutions to hydrocarbons, which was published earlier this year in Nature Communications.
