Congratulations to MASc student Marwa Naime (pictured second from the right), who was awarded the 2023 Kingston Youth Sustainability Champion Award for her efforts in helping the city work towards sustainability targets.
Sustainable Kingston recognized sustainability leaders in the Kingston community at the 2023 Sustainable Kingston Awards on September 13 at Springer Market Square. The event was also attended by Mayor Bryan Paterson and Sustainable Kingston Board Chair Matt Knowles. The Kingston Youth Sustainability Champion Award is given to individuals in the community that help propel the City’s sustainability mission forward. Through the PhD-CI program at Queen’s, Marwa worked with the city on a project to establish a foundation that alters their policies and practices through a sustainability lens.
“I am happy to have received this through my work with the PhD-CI program and have been able to collaborate more on all Queen’s has been doing to rank so high in The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings,” said Marwa. “My win is a small part of all the university’s work, but it is still nice to celebrate as a student!”
Marwa is co-supervised by Marianna Kontopoulou, Kevin De France and Peter Gilbert. Her project is focusing on scattering techniques to study protein nanofiber alignment, orientation, and rheological behavior to better understand their effects on material properties.
