Masters in Civil Engineering (MEng)
The requirement for the MEng degree is eight term length courses, of which one may be a term length project course. At least four courses must taken from the student's home department. A maximum of two term length courses may be taken at the 400 undergraduate level.
Master of Applied Science (MASc)
The minimum requirements for completion are four term length graduate courses, research and a thesis. The four courses must conform to the FEAS Graduate Council requirements, that is, term length graduate courses or their equivalent. The Council will accept one senior (400 series) undergraduate course as equivalent to a graduate course provided that the course is approved by the student's supervisor and the student has not received credit for a similar course in their bachelor's program.
Doctoral Program (PhD)
The minimum FEAS Graduate Council requirements for the program are four term courses beyond the master's degree, research and thesis, and a comprehensive examination. The objective of the comprehensive exam is to establish to the satisfaction of the department that the student has a sound proposal for PhD research, an effective grasp of his/her main and related areas of study and the ability to handle facts, new ideas and concepts at the PhD level. The exam must be completed within four to eighteen months of registering in the PhD program. Details of these comprehensive examinations are available upon request from the Graduate Assistant in the department.
