Admission Process

Mechatronics and Robotics is a direct entry program, meaning students apply directly to the program instead of following the traditional Queen’s Engineering flow of a ‘common core’ first year followed by program selection.

Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering applications should be made to the Ontario University Admissions Council, just like your Queen’s Engineering application. Use the special code “QEM” to apply for the Queen’s Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering program.

You can apply to both Queen’s Engineering and the Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering program!

Potential Transfer Pathways

  • I’m in first year FEAS, can I transfer into MRE?

MRE will be accepting transfer students from the first year of APSC in the Winter of 2022, for entering the second year of MRE in Fall of 2022. That’s the only transfer mechanism that we have at the moment. And transfers at that time will be done on a case by case basis, in the same way that transfers between programs are being handled now.

  • I’m in upper year FEAS, can I transfer into MRE?

MRE will be accepting transfer students in the Winter of 2022, to enter the second year of MRE in the Fall of 2022. That’s the only transfer mechanism that we have at the moment. Transfers at that time will be done on a case-by-case basis, in the same way that transfers between programs are being handled now.

If you are in second year FEAS now, Winter of 2022 you’d be in third year of FEAS and one year away from graduation (May 2023). If you are accepted to transfer into MRE at that time, you’d revert back to second year MRE and wouldn’t graduate until May 2025. That path would not be recommended.

If you are in third year FEAS now, Winter of 2022 you’d be in fourth year of MME with graduation May 2022. If you are accepted to transfer into MRE at that time, you’d revert back to second year MRE and wouldn’t graduate until May 2025. That path would not be recommended.

For upper year transfers, getting credit for courses that you have already taken, won’t change the timeline, as the last set of MREN courses that you need to graduate won’t be offered until Winter 2025.
